Vernon “Don” Turner was born March 10, 1949 in South Carolina, the son of Vernon L. Turner and Jacquline Singletary Turner

Vernon “Don” Turner passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, from a battle with cancer at age 61. He was a native of South Carolina and a resident of Gonzales. He was a retired maintenance worker from Shell Oil Co., Norco.

Survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret Deville Turner; mother, Jacquline Singletary Turner; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Gary Harelson and Angela and Joey Decoteau; three grandchildren, Kyle Harelson and Hope and Hayden Decoteau; two sisters, Beverly Rogers, of South Carolina, and Melody Browning, of Georgia; and two brothers, Jack and Jacob Turner, of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon L. Turner.

He was a member of New River Masonic Lodge 402. Don was also an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.


Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Thursday, April 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Masonic dedication at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by Sam Smith, pastor. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, La. 30, Gonzales.
