COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Mildred Baucom Smith, 93, of Columbia formerly of Elgin will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Smyrna United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Joanne Lockard-Hawkins will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be sent in Mrs. Smith’s memory to the Smyrna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Elgin, S. C. 29045. The family of Mrs Smith would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ascension Hospice House of Irmo for their kind and loving care.

Mrs. Smith, widow of Henry Boykin Smith, died, Saturday, November 13, 2010. Born in Dunn, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Horace Clifford Baucom and Corrie McIntyre Baucom. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the Blaney High School, former employee of the Elgin Watch Company, former representative for Avon and a Member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church. She had instructed Arts and Crafts at the Kershaw County Fine Arts Center and had served as President of the Blaney High School PTA for several years. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Betsy S. Love of Columbia and John “Jack”K. Smith and his wife Sandra M. Smith also of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer Broome, Jessica Mast, Justin Smith, and Mary Byrd; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law Robert Love, Jr; grandson Robert Love, III, sister Ruth McIntyre Baucom; and brother and sister-in-law Horace Clifford Baucom, Jr. and his wife,Rosalind.
