Hopkins: A memorial service for Toby Jacobs, 62, of Hopkins will be held at 7:30 o’clock Friday, May 6, 2011 at Greenlawn Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Rickey Jacobs. The family will receive friends beginning at 6 o’clock prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, NY 10038-4810 or to The Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation, P.O. Box 1028, Bedford, MA 01730. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel is assisting the family.

Born in Richland County, July 16, 1948, he was a son for the late Otto M. Jacobs, Sr., and Gladys B. Peake.

During the Vietnam War, he worked in Special Service while being stationed in Korea with the US Army as a musician. Toby had been owner/operator of several nightclubs in Richland as well as Kershaw County where he ran “FRIENDS” in Lugoff.

Toby and his wife Aletha toured the Mediterranean, Panama and Honduras with the Department of Defense USO Tours. Toby was also known as a singer, songwriter and was currently working in Nashville, TN. He also worked in the land development business in Kershaw County. Toby continued his work with H. E. Jones and Assoc. following the death of his father-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years Aletha; daughter, Buffi C. Jacobs and fiancé, Andrew H. Chard of Dallas, TX; sisters, Faye Hornsby of Lugoff; Linda Jacobs Gilbert of Lugoff; Marsene Jacobs of Lugoff; brothers Pastor Rickey Jacobs of Elgin; Chris Jacobs of Lugoff; brother-in-law, Phillip Jones of Hopkins.
