Charles M. Hill, 94, passed away September 22, 2016, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday September 26, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery on Elmwood Avenue. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with the visitation following.
Mr. Hill, a native of Columbia was born December 12, 1921, he was retired from the US Air Force as a Major, was a prisoner of war while serving in the Korean War and served in Europe during WWII. He was active with his church and Knights of Columbus. He was a past Grand Knight of St. Joseph’s council, a local, state and a national officer of the American Ex-Prisoners of War. He was a very devoted husband and father.
He was predeceased in death by his daughters, Edith Boyd and Isabel Hutchison.
Survivors include his wife, Merilee; daughters, Sheila Cooper (Donnie), Margi Hill; son, Charles Hill; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Julia Fagan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
