Obituary of Bob Phillips

LUGOFF Funeral service for Robert Nicholas “Bob” Phillips Sr., 77, will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Hanf and the Rev. David Sturgeon will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Relay For Life , c/o Gail Kirkland, 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078 or Concord Baptist Church, 2211 Porter Cross Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.

Mr. Phillips passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Palmetto Health Baptist. Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Earl Kenneth Phillips and Julia L. Bears Phillips. He served in the United States Marine Corps and retired from Eastman Chemical. Mr. Phillips was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #398. He was also a member of the N.E Columbia Optimist Club and Possum Breeders where he was past president. He enjoyed cooking, working on fund raisers, fishing, hunting and spending time with friends.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Phyllis R. Hutchinson Phillips; brothers, Earl Kenneth Phillips (Jan) of Towson, Md. and Henry Ralph Phillips (Shannon) of Parkville, Md.; grandchildren, Emily Phillips Ballew (Stephen) of Greenville and Andrew Michael Phillips of Travelers Rest; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Colton Ballew, Layla Marie Ballew and Wyatt Avery Ballew. He was predeceased by a son, Robert N. “Nick” Phillips, Jr.
