Margaret Wingate born on October 13, 1933, the second of four children. Her parents are Robert George Wingate and Jency Wingate, in Hartsville SC. After a lengthy battle in pain and with sickness, the Lord called Sister Cooper home to rest. She departed this life on August 22,2020. Affectionately given the nickname “Doll”. After graduating Butler High School in Hartsville. She migrated north to Baltimore MD where she met and married David McElveen from that union her first child son David.

After three years of marriage a tragic car accident ended with the passing of husband David. She started working in a hair salon as an assistant. After a year she relocated to Asbury Park, NJ for a summer job in a resort hotel. After realizing she wanted a career in Cosmetology, she then moved to Newark NJ. Margaret attended Wilford’s Beauty School. One evening while attending a movie theater in Newark with her girls she met James Cooper, a barber from Paterson. After graduating from beauty school she married and relocated to Paterson. After purchasing property in 1961 she opened Margarets Beauty Parlor, the salon’s first location at 159 12th ave and then relocating to Broadway. After 30 years she retired and moved to Camden SC. With many stops along the way in her life.

In her union with James the couple had two children; Donald and Regina. But Margaret’s biggest achievement was in 1968 she became a born again Christian and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord savor with her friend Annie. In a small church on Summer st named “CHRIST IS THE ANSWER” that would change her life. To be born again, Margaret studied the word of God and became an evangelist and preached the bible for the remainder of her time on this earth. Through good and bad times always putting God first, she spoke and taught of salvation. How God gave his only son to forgive ALL of our sins. Over 50 years of walking in Christ, many people’s lives have been changed and Margaret has been instrumental in their introduction to Christ and Salvation. She has traveled from coast to coast speaking of the goodness of God.

Evangelist Cooper has walked the walk and talked the talk. Her famous words were “ Just pray on it”.

Margaret liked bowling, playing gin rummy, monopoly the board game, a great chef of all foods, watching westerns movies, making quilts, a fanatic of tennis, NBA basketball fan and reading. Buying and selling properties. Praying and praising God.

Proceeding Margaret in death, James Cooper, her son David McEleeven and Hattie (daughter-in-law) McEleeven, grandson Marquet Cooper, Her sister Mattie Fields, brother Cary Lee Bachus good friends Robert and Annie Jones, Sister Jenkins.

She leaves to cherish wonderful memories her son Donald(Darlene), daughter Regina(Allen) Cabbagestalk, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several great-great grand . Her brother Walt Wingate and a host of nieces and nephews.
