Joseph Franklin Hotchkiss was born March 19, 1933 in Irmo, South Carolina, a son of Edwin Jackson Hotchkiss and Ellise Bauknight Hotchkiss.
1940 Census Information:
According to the 1940 United States census reported on April 23, 1940, Edwin J Hotchkis (66) rented a home in Johns Island Township, Charleston, South Carolina with his wife, Ellis Hotchkis (34), and their children; Lyndell Hotchkis (12), Edwina Hotchkis (11), Darnell Hotchkis (9), Joseph Hotchkis (7) and Janie Hotchkis (4). All family members were reported to have been born in South Carolina except for Edwin who was born in Georgia. On April 1, 1935 the family lived in a rural area of Richland County, South Carolina. Edwin was a laborer for the WPA road project.

A private funeral service to celebrate the life of Joseph Franklin Hotchkiss, 87, of Elgin, SC, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. There will be a viewing from 1:00PM – 2:00PM. Graveside burial to follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, 11020 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC. The public is invited to attend the viewing and the burial. Memorials may be made to Anchor Baptist Church, 418 North Brickyard Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
Joseph died Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was born in Irmo, SC, the son of the late Edwin Jackson Hotchkiss and Ellise Bauknight Hotchkiss. Joseph loved the Lord with all his heart. Loved reading his Bible, gospel music, old time preaching and going to church. He also loved his family, fishing, gardening, golfing and puzzles. He never met a stranger and was a very happy man.
Pallbearers for his service will be, Chad Connley, Josh Bishop, John Gardner, Chris Robitzsch and Christian Robitzsch. Honorary Pallbearers Caleb Connley and Noah Bishop also attending.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Susan G. Blevins (Kenny), of Elgin: son Thomas Haga (Charlotte), of Joppa, MD; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and his sister, Sandra Feldman (Mark), of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Joseph was predeceased by wife, Shirley R. Hotchkiss; sisters, Lindal Dew, Edwina Parker, Darnell Wall and Janice Hasty.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
