2021

A service to celebrate the life of Jerold Thomas Newton, Jr., 54, of Elgin, will be held at 12:30pm, on Friday, January 29, 2021, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Pastor Brian Marion will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11:30AM to 12:30PM, prior to the service, at the Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.

Jerold, affectionately known as J.J., Daddy, Dad, Pops and Pop Pop, died Sunday, January 24, 2021. Born in Fayetteville, NC, he was the son of Ruth Corbin Newton and the late Jerold Thomas Newton, Sr. Jerold was a graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, retired Army National Guard, and worked as a civil servant for the government.

He is survived by his mother; his wife, Susan Terese “Susie” Newton; children Joshua Hopkins (Francis), Jessica Newton (Richard), Brianna Newton, and Shannon Newton; and six grandchildren.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

On March 23, 2024, Jerold T. Newton, Jr. was mentioned as the deceased son in the obituary of Ruth Corbin Newton.
