Margie Henson Griffeth, 98, of Camden passed away Tuesday, March 16. She was the wife of the late Vernon Ray Griffeth.
Margie was born July 7, 1922 in Six Mile, SC and was the daughter of the late Otha Hamilton Henson and Ora Kidder Robinson Henson. She grew up in Easley, SC and graduated from Easley High School where she played basketball. After spending time in Baltimore working at a munitions plant during WWII, she returned to SC. Margie and Vernon were married December 19,1947. They moved to Camden in 1956. She worked at BC Moore’s until she retired. She was an accomplished seamstress and excellent cook. She enjoyed needlework and reading. Margie was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
She left a legacy of love and strength to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Margie is survived by her daughters, Kathy Beckham (Buster) of Camden and Ruth Ann Welch (Brian) of Pass Christian, MS; her grandchildren, Mary Kate West (Maury), Marlee Marsh (Graham), Griff Beckham (Gretchen) all of Camden, and Emma Welch of Pass Christian MS; and great-grandchildren, Reese, Patrick, and Caston West, Mac and Levi Marsh, Reeves and Banks Beckham. She was predeceased by her 9 sisters and 2 brothers.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 pm on Thursday, March 25 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. A private service to celebrate her life will be held later with Rev. Arnold Becker, Margie’s great nephew, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, 110 E Dekalb St., Camden SC 29020 or another memorial of one’s choice.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hall 100 at Springdale Healthcare, Camden, SC for their compassionate care to Margie, especially during the quarantine due to Covid 19.
