A funeral service to celebrate the life of James Edward Patterson, Jr., 91, of Lugoff, will be held at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Roy Butler will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Memorials may be sent to St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 1301 Mill Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Lovingly known as “Pat” by his friends and family, he was born to the late Adlena Grant Patterson and James E. Patterson, Sr. on April 30, 1930 in Cheraw, South Carolina. Pat grew up in Camden, South Carolina.
Pat attended Camden High School, and spoke highly of his time playing on their football team. After leaving school, Pat joined the National Guard, and later served in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Pat married the love of his life, Justine Massalon Patterson, on August 28, 1955.
Pat worked at DuPont for 31 years and owned Patterson Plaza and Pat’s Body Shop in Lugoff, where he went to work every day until his 90th birthday, when he decided to “retire” and only come to work when he decided he needed to work. He loved riding motorcycles, rebuilding cars, traveling with his wife, telling stories about his adventures, and spending time with his family. Pat was a member of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his son, James Edward “Jamie” Patterson, III (Kimberly) of Lugoff; daughters, Deanna Patterson Cobb (Mike) of Lugoff, Gwen Patterson Bowers (John) of Camden, and Lugene Patterson Huffstetler (Rollie) of Blythewood; grandchildren, Shawn Patterson, Errin Patterson, Alex Bowers, James Edward “Jay” Patterson, IV, Julianna Cobb, Jesse Bowers, Gabriel Cobb, and Cassie Patterson; great-grandchildren, Katherine Huffstetler, Nicholas Huffstetler, John Weston Henderson,and Patrick Otto McGrath; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pat was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Justine; sisters, Dorothy Patterson Segars and Doris Patterson Bouknight; and brothers, Robert Patterson and Ted Patterson.
