Friday night football scores from Midlands and SC high school games

It’s Week 2 in the South Carolina high school football season, with teams still navigating an evolving game schedule amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are scores from Friday night’s games featuring Midlands teams.

Thursday

Gray Collegiate 42, Legion Collegiate 0: Running back KZ Adams rushed for 250 yards and three touchdowns for the War Eagles.

Friday

Barnwell 40, Swansea 8

Brookland-Cayce 14, Blythewood 3: Tanner Staton and Ben Pugh each had TD runs as the Bearcats won their season opener and prevented Blythewood from going 3-0 for the first time since 2007.

CA Johnson 50, Eau Claire 0: Dawan Rice rushed for two touchdowns as the CAJ (2-1) won its second straight game.

Camden 43, Hartsville 37: Devontae McCray 5-yard touchdown run with 1:26 left was the game-winner for the Bulldogs (2-1). McCray finished with two scores, QB Cauthen Best and Cortez Lane each had two TDs for Camden.

Chester 28, Airport 7

Chapin 56, Lugoff-Elgin 28: Bennett Galloway ran for three touchdowns and Jayden Bradford threw for three scores for Chapin (2-0). Galloway finished with 134 yards rushing and Bradford was 6-of-8 for 117 yards. Receiver Zavier Short caught two touchdons and also had a kickoff return for a TD.

Crestwood 16, Richland Northeast 15: Nigel Johnson threw two touchdown passes,, including one with 7:49 left, as Crestwood handed RNE (2-1) its first loss of season.

Dutch Fork 56, Byrnes 25: Dutch Fork quarterback Davin Patterson threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for two scores. Receiver Antonio Williams had four catches for 126 yards and a TD. Jarvis Green had 181 all-purpose yards and three scores. for DF (2-0).

Fairfield Central 32, Chesnee 16: Samaj Young and Stephon Gadson each had two touchdowns as the Griffins (2-1) picked up their second win in five days.

Hammond 35, Porter-Gaud 7: Quarterback Jack Weston was 14-of-19 passing for 168 yards and three TDs and running back CJ Stokes rushed for 147 yards and a TD.

Heathwood Hall 34, Ben Lippen 17: Rondarius Porter ran for two touchdowns and forced a fumble for Heathwood (2-1). Dylan Lesane also had two TDs for the Highlanders.

Johnsonville 29, North Central 26

Keenan 32, Dreher 21: The Raiders overcame an 8-6 halftime deficit by scoring 24 points in the second half to win the season opener for both teams. Keenan’s win came less than a week after death of offensive lineman DonAdrian Robinson, who was honored in a ceremony before the game.

Lower Richland 35, Hilton Head 6: QB Robert Adams threw for two touchdowns and Jeremy Barney had two TD runs for the Diamond Hornets, who improved to 3-0 on season.

Mid-Carolina 51, Whitmire 0: The Rebels picked up its first win of the season.

Nation Ford 28, River Bluff 21: Nation Ford QB threw for 295 yards and three scores including the game-winner with 9:52 left. RB quarterback Hunter Sheppard had 249 yards passing and three TDs, two to Apollos Cook in the loss. Cook caught 13 passes for 152 yards.

Pelion 42, Midland Valley 26: Peyton Whitten had two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns as Pelion outscored the Mustangs, 22-6, in the second half.

Richard Winn 36, Faith Christian 14: B Baker rushed for two touchdowns as RW moved to 2-0 on the season.

South Florence 63, Irmo 28: LaNorris Sellers threw five touchdowns in the win for South Florence.

White Knoll 31, Orangeburg-Wilkinson 12: Jaquez Frederick ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns to give White Knoll (1-2) its first win of the season. QB Austin Cunningham threw for a touchdown and ran for one.

Saturday

Lexington 14, Gilbert 12: The Wildcats stopped a two-point conversion with 38 seconds left to preserve a win over their county foes. Tyler Walker had two touchdown runs for Lexington.

Carver Columbus (Ga.) 28, Spring Valley 15: The Vikings suffered their first loss of the season Saturday at The Cam Newton Classic in Atlanta.

Canceled: York at Westwood; Sumter at Ridge View; Newberry at Clinton; Augusta Christian at Cardinal Newman; Ninety Six at Saluda; Bluffton at Airport; Swansea at Batesburg-Leesville
