Obituary of Jim Mazur

LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of James Francis “Jim” Mazur, 89, will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Harvest Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  The Rev. Bill Dulaney officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. 

    Mr. Mazur, known as “Lieutenant”, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 26, 2022.  Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of Celia Mazur.  He retired from the United States Marine Corp with 23 years of service.  He received 2 Purple Hearts, United Nation Service Medal Korea, Gallantry Cross w/Palm, and a letter of appreciation from the President 1960.  He was also an HMX-1 Presidential Navigator.  Mr. Mazur enjoyed traveling, playing golf and his dogs.  He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and the American Legion.

    Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Owensby Mazur; children, Scott Chaney, Steve Chaney and Frankie Moorefield (Caroline); grandchildren, Krystel Agostino (Dominque), Rob Mazur (Brooke), Sarah Chaney, Tyson Moorefield, Colton Moorefield, Rodney Chaney, and Ashleigh Riley (Damion); great-grandson, Gregory Mazur; and his dogs, Marley and Maggie.  He was predeceased by children, Greg Mazur and Suzette Chaney.
