Funeral services for Carolyn Harless Pettyjohn, 89, will be held Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Camden with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Reverend Phillip Gerald will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary at 1:30 PM, 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Pettyjohn Prayer Garden, Gardner-Webb University, 110 S. Main Street, Boiling Springs, NC 28017.
Mrs. Pettyjohn died Sunday, February 27, 2022. Born in Lenoir, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Wiley Harless and Katherine Grist Harless. She was a graduate of Lenoir High School where she was a proud member of the prestigious Lenoir High School Band as a percussionist. She attended Women’s College of UNC, Fruitland Baptist Bible College, Gardner-Webb College, and Carson-Newman College. She was a former teacher at Summerville Elementary School in Summerville, Georgia. Mrs. Pettyjohn was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden having held various leadership positions and serving as Adult Sunday School Director and former Sunday School Teacher. She was very active in Woman’s Missionary Union, Adult Choir, Silvertones, FBC Church Orchestra, Jubilate, Touch, and Faith Ministries.
Surviving are her sons, Robert C. (Karen C.) Pettyjohn, and Max S. (Pamela H.) Pettyjohn; daughter, Marcy P. Jowers (Robby); grandchildren, Katie P. Reuther (Andrew), Wendy P. Poole (Steven), Caroline J. Stevenson (Clint), Rob Jowers, and Andrew Pettyjohn; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Poole, Bobby Reuther, SJ Poole, Charlotte Poole, Magnolia Reuther, and Brooklyn Poole; brother, Max Harless (Cathy) and sister, Patricia Hoffman (Bill). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby McCall Pettyjohn; siblings, James Harless, Dorothy Harless, Tom Harless, Fred Harless, Mary Sue Harless, Eugene Harless, and Irma H. Ogilvie.
