May River, Hilton Head Island girls golfers earn all-state honors

May River came up short for its third straight girls golf title but the Sharks and Hilton Head Island had strong showings at the Class 4A championships.

May River finished runner-up to Pickens while HHI was fourth at the two-dway tournament that wrapped Tuesday at Hidden Lakes.

The Sharks finished with a 679, 23 shots behind champion Pickens. The Seahawks finished with 699. AC Flora was third at 696.Bluffton finished 11th.

May River’s Claire Green (152) and Robbin Zetrouer (155) were all-state along with Hilton Head Island’s Alexia Milbrandt (156).

Myrtle Beach’s Madison Messimer (143) won the individual championship.

In Class 3A, Beaufort finished 10th. Seneca won the championship by three shots over Blue Ridge.

Blue Ridge’s Lindley Cox won the individual championship with a 151.

Seahawks alive in playoffs

The Hilton Head Island girls tennis team moved on in the Class 4A playoffs on Tuesday.

The Seahawks defeated North Myrtle Beach, 6-0, and will travel to Myrtle Beach on Thursday for the third round.

The Seahawks defeated West Florence, 3-0, in the first round and Lugoff-Elgin on Monday, 3-0 in the second round.

HHI faced Lucy Beckham on Wednesday night.
