Mrs. Norris was the devoted wife of the late Howard (Bubba) Glen Norris, her husband of 67 years, and the daughter of the late Sanford Sumter Lee and Ida Pate Lee.

Esther Lee Norris, 94, died Saturday, December 3, 2022.  Esther was born in Lee County on September 16, 1928, she was the oldest of five children, and was affectionately dubbed “The Chief” by her siblings as the matriarch of the family.  With her birth coming a year before the start of the Great Depression and living her formative years during World War II, Mrs. Norris was a fine example of the “greatest generation.”  Esther was a graduate of Central High School in Lee County and the highlight of her time there was hitting the game-winning free throws that sent her team to the Lower State tournament. This sparked a love for sports that she carried throughout her life. Esther relished beach vacations with her family and some of their happiest times were spent at the family’s beach house at Cherry Grove. In addition to her great love of family, she will be remembered for her flair for fashion, an eye for antiques, and a great beauty that never left her. We relish the thought of her reunion with loved ones who have gone on before her.

Mrs. Norris is survived by her children, Debra N. Kellogg of Camden, Vicki N. Palmer (Steve) of Florence, and Howard L. Norris (Natalie) of Camden; grandson Robert Kellogg (Jennifer) of Camden, whom she viewed as a second son; great-granddaughters Jessica K. Duncan (Wesley) and Kayla Kellogg of Camden, and great-great-grandson Bentley Duncan; sisters Yvonne Logan of Lancaster and Jackie Drayton (Ray) of Bishopville, and sister-in-law Pat Lee of Cheraw. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Olin Lee, sister Sybil Sellers, and granddaughter Kaitlyn Kellogg.

The family members would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Karesh Wing for the love and care they have extended these last five years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or BoysTown at support.boystown.org.
