Obituary

James Corbett “Sonny” Branham, Jr, 79, of Columbia was promoted to Heaven on December 9, 2022, after a long battle with Dementia.  Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late James C. Branham, Sr and Mattie L. Branham of Elgin.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by sisters, Irma Sweat and Donna Branham.

Survivors include his devoted wife Judy, sons David (Stephanie) Branham of Irmo, Billy (Dana) Branham of FL, Benny Morgan of Columbia; twin brothers Don (Miriam)and Jon Branham of Elgin, sisters Debra Branham of Elgin, and Blanche Cribbs of AL, brother-in-laws Tommy (Diane) Coker of Elgin, and Mike Coker of WY, as well as grandchildren, great grands, nieces, and nephews, 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 2PM, at Anchor Baptist Church, 418 N Brickyard Rd, Columbia, SC 29223. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service.  Kornegay & Moseley  Funeral Home, 4645 Hard Scrabble Rd, is assisting the family. Entombment will be private. 

Sonny was an active faithful member of Anchor Baptist Church, Adult Sunday School class, and Rusty Anchors senior group. His faith in Christ carried him through many difficult trials. He believed in sharing with others the things Christ blessed him with.

He retired as a Site & Construction Superintendent traveling the US, building 38 Home Depots, shopping centers, medical and commercial office buildings.  In his early years, he and his father worked side by side building a successful remodeling business. Sonny proudly served our country in the US Army and SC National Guard.  

Away from his occupation he enjoyed barbecuing for  family gatherings, NASCAR, fishing, and water skiing; he was a great slalom skier. Sonny also Yo-Yo-ed, “walk the dog” was his favorite trick. His favorite pastime was riding through car dealerships, near and far, looking at new vehicles with his buddy Lawrence Rose. He often talked about the wild rides he experienced teaching his young grands, nephews, and nieces how to drive a golf cart. Sonny was a humble man and greeted everyone with a handshake and his warm beautiful smile. He was gentle in heart which served him well both professionally and in his personal life, always willing to help others.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to CNA Teresa & LPN Krista of Amedisys Hospice, and CNA Chris, NURSE Leah of Heart of Care Hospice, also caregivers, Maryjo and Faye.
