Nancy Wood Coley

Nancy Wood Coley, 79, of Candler passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023.

A native of Columbia, SC Nancy was the daughter of the late Arthur Lewis Wood and Clydie Louella Pace Wood. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, both parents and her husband, David C. Coley.

After a 20 year career as an administrative assistant for Square D Company, Nancy went on to work for First Baptist Church for a number of years and then turned her focus to volunteering and to her family.

A resident of Candler since 1975, she was a faithful member of Lake Hills Church (formerly New Morgan Hill). She volunteered and served in many capacities including playing the organ, singing in the choir, the soprano for the Heavenly Love Quartet, hospitality team and working in the front office.

She earned the name “Nanny” as she lovingly cared for Hannah, lending her love and support to the Farlow family. That name stuck as she became the most wonderful grandmother to our entire family.

Although Nanny will be deeply missed, her indelible impact to this world will be a lasting tribute to the faithful, God serving, wife, mother, grandmother and friend she was.

Surviving are her sons, Tim Coley and David C. Coley Jr. (Ashley), and grandchildren, Kaylee, Kyndal, Tessa and Porter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, at Lake Hills Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Private family burial will be held at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Lake Hills Church, 370 Lake Dr., Candler, NC 28715.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
