Obituary of Willie Thomas, Jr.

CAMDEN- A funeral service for Willie Thomas, Jr., 87, will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Freddie Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

    Deacon Thomas, husband of the late Katherine Thomas, passed away on February 28, 2024. Born in Boykin, he was a son of the late Willie Thomas, Sr. and Emma Deas Thomas. Deacon Thomas was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He was also a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. Deacon Thomas enjoyed baseball, riding his bicycle, and caring for horses.

    Left to cherish his memory are his children, Linda Thomas Blyther (Russell) of Bishopville, Kathy Thomas Porter (Thomas) of Woodbridge, VA, William Earl Thomas of Camden, Darryl Bernard Thomas of Camden; siblings, Dorothy Thomas, Walter Thomas, George Thomas, Cleveland Thomas; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Susie Rivers, Mary Skinner, Rosa Sumpter and Austin Thomas.
