A graveside service to celebrate the life of William Dennis Ely, Sr. will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  Reverend Blake Jenkins will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans at help.dav.org, or Wounded Warriors at uso.org/donate.

William died on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.  Born in Trion, GA, he was the son of the late James Leonard Ely, Sr., and Ida Phillips Ely. William was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Army Agent Orange program from 1967 to 1969.

William is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Tindall Ely; and their two sons, William Dennis Ely, Jr (Amy) of Lugoff, SC and James Leonard Ely II of Lexington, SC; and their eight grandchildren Jacob, Caleb, Luke, Abbey, James Ely III, Evan, Ashley, and Aleah. William is survived by his sister Jane Ely Butler of Silver Springs, FL.  He was predeceased by his brother James Leonard Ely, Jr.
