Sandra passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, with her son and loved ones by her side.
She was born in Fort Worth, TX, and was the eldest child to the late Allen Evans Reeder, Jr. and Helen Joanne Pettus Reeder.
Sandra was a 1973 Camden High School Graduate. She attended USC Columbia, later finishing her undergrad at Augusta State University with a B.A in Spanish and obtained her Master’s degree in English Education at Troy University. Sandra taught Spanish at Westside High School in Augusta, GA for 15 years and chaired the Spanish Debate Club at Augusta State University. She impacted many young lives throughout her years of teaching and made learning fun.
Sandra loved cooking, dancing, good food, family time during the holidays, music, reading, shopping, and writing.
Sandra’s favorite place was at the beach with a book in her hand. It was her place of peace. In her younger years, she resided in Charleston, SC, and spent her days frequenting Sullivans Island and the Isle of Palms basking in the sun and modeling for department stores. Family beach trips to Garden City Beach and Holden Beach with her parents and siblings were some of her fondest memories. Later in life, she took annual trips to Maine with her sister and parents to sail, eat some of the best seafood, and take walks along the Marginal Way and Ogunquit Beach.
Sandra was known as “Gammy”, to her granddaughters Natalie and Molly and they held a very special place in her heart and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them.
Sandra was the best Mother any child could ask for or hope to have. She always put her needs last and provided unconditional love and support. Sandra and her son spoke daily and truly had a special bond.
Sandra led with love and kindness, based on her faith in God. She was a free spirit who loved life and people and would want to be remembered that way. Please take this time to mourn, but to also celebrate her life and remember all the good memories of the lives she touched and impacted.
Sandra is survived by her former husband of 32 years James Roderick Hornsby, Sr. of Waynesboro, GA.
Son James Roderick Hornsby, Jr. (Jessica Ranew) of Greenville, SC; granddaughters Natalie and Molly Hornsby; and her siblings Robin Nettles of Camden, SC; Dennis Reeder (Ruth) of Camden, SC; and Brent Reeder (Emily) of Greenville, SC.
Pallbearers will be: James Hornsby Sr., James Hornsby Jr., Dennis Reeder, Brent Reeder, Aaron Nettles, Dr. Matthew Nettles, Thomas Reeder and Matthew Quattlebaum.
Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
