Funeral Services for Richard Thomas (Dick) Lackey, Sr. will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Camden, SC.  Rev. Phillip Gerrald will officiate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM in the Fellowship Center. Burial will follow the service at Quaker Cemetery.  

Richard Thomas (Dick) Lackey, Sr. passed on March 11, 2024. Dick was born in Arlington, Va. July 2, 1935, to Red and Elva Thomas Lackey. Growing up Dick lived in many places from Alexandria, Va., to South Carolina, North Carolina, California, and back to South Carolina. He graduated from Chicora High School in Charleston County in 1953. He married Joann Ruth Daley, his High School friend and sweetheart August 17, 1956. With the solid support of Joann, he graduated from Clemson A&M College with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was Commissioned a Second Lt. in the US Army Reserve on June 6, 1960.

Dick was employed in the Engineering Research Department of Newport News Ship Building and Dry Dock Co. until entering active duty in the U S Army. He completed his active service on May 14, 1963, after serving as Headquarters Company Commander, US Army Transportation Environmental Operations Group. He was employed by The Nuclear Power Division of The Charleston Naval Shipyard before joining The DuPont Co. in 1965. He retired from DuPont in 1996 as a Senior Research Associate and then served the Company as a consultant until 2001. Dick was a Life member of ASME and The American Legion.  Dick served on many committees and commissions in support of public schools and public recreation.

Dick was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as a SS Teacher, Deacon, and on many Committees.

Dick is survived by son Richard Jr. (Suzanne), daughter Ruth L. Reeder (Dennis), grandchildren Emily L. Rogers (Keary), Kathryn R. Cooper (Mitchel), and Thomas A. Reeder (Lauren), great-grandchildren Thomas Rawlings, William Rawlings, Allie Grace Rogers, Riggs Cooper, Annabelle Cooper, Weezie Reeder and sisters Ann L. Brooks and Jane L. Erickson (Rev. Greg). Dick was predeceased by his parents, brother, Jerry, brother-in-law Rev. Robert Brooks, and his wife Joann, the angel in his life——
