Obituary of Danny Ray Sanders
Danny Ray Sanders, 76, of Blythewood, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Born in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Gilbert Parker Sanders and Evelyn Ouzts Sanders Huckaby and the husband of Cynthia Robinson Sanders. Danny was a proud US Army veteran, and he served in the Vietnam War from 1966 – 1969. He was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Danny had a passion for serving veterans and was a past Commander in the American Legion and a faithful supporter of DAV, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. He loved music, especially R&B, and was a lifelong entrepreneur, owning his own collateral recovery business for 29 years. Danny was upbeat and positive, and he never met a stranger. Above all, he had of heart of gold, always going out of his way to help anyone in need. His generous and compassionate spirit left a lasting impact in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Danny is survived by his son, Scott Alan Sanders (his wife Courtney); as well as his grandson, Parker Alan Sanders.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, C. Wayne Sanders; step-father, Joe. A. Huckaby, Jr; and step-siblings, Donald Baruch Huckaby, Jo Lynn Snelgrove, and Kay Bolt.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Sanders will be held at 12:30pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 10:30am. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia.
