Obituary of John “Jake, J.W.” Mizell

LUGOFF- A funeral service for John Wesley “Jake, J.W.” Mizell, 88, of Lugoff, SC will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Doug Huntsinger and the Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church.

    Mr. Mizell passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.  Born in Folkston, GA, he was the son of the late Lonnie Mizell and Aggie Nettles Mizell.  John retired from the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He worked at the VA Hospital for 28 years. He was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 33 years.

    John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Priscilla Mizell; daughters, Aimee Hinson (Donald), and Angela Dooley Peterson (Erik); brothers, Roger Brown, Raymond Mizell (Lois); grandchildren, Layne Hinson, Tyrus “Ty” Dooley, and Ashley Dooley; and he will be especially missed by his four-legged pal, Ozzy. He was preceded in death by brothers, Amos Mizell, Frank Brown, and Clyde Mizell.
