Obituary of Sidney L. Skinner

COLUMBIA – Sidney Lynn Skinner, 93, a dear sweet gentle soul went to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.  Born in Silver City, N.M. on June 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Sidney Samuel and Vera Blakely Skinner.

He grew up in Kerrville, Texas and graduated from Tivy High School and went on to attend Schreiner University.  Sidney served in the United States Air Force and pursued a number of careers during his lifetime.  He was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.  He enjoyed his passion for flying and belonged to several flying clubs.

Sidney pursued and won the heart of his wife, Sylvia Shuler Skinner whom he was married to for 38 years.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Cathy Arnold and Sydney Terry; step-children, Tim McLellan (Mindy), Mandy Hayes (Jackie), and Phil McLellan (Carole). He was the proud grandfather to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lynn Skinner; and brother, Jerald V. Skinner

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 4:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church.  The Rev. Eric Walter will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A Moment of Hope, 1414 Lady Street, Columbia, S.C.  29201 or a charity of one’s choice.
