LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Columbus Parker Track Club started in March this year with a young coaching staff that grew up in the program. The track club consists of 25 members from Lancaster and Chester counties.
The track club started AAU Qualifiers with the South Carolina District meet on Saturday, June 1.
On May 25, the club participated in the All-Star Classic at Eastside High School in Taylors. The team brought home a total of 14 medals.
The top-performing athlete was 9-year-old Isaiah Duncan. He attends Clinton Elementary in Lancaster. He placed first in the 100- and 200-meters. He also placed third in the long jump.
Other first-place winners were Michaela Bufford in the 1,500-meter racewalk and Ayden Alexander in 110-meter hurdles.
Second-place winners were D’Mya Wade in the long and triple jumps, Reggie Harris in the 400-meter hurdles, Terrek Walls in the long jump and Carson Seegars in shot put.
Third-place winners were Zakaria Gillcrese in the 100 and 200, Keywan Jones in long jump and Derrick Sparks Jr. in javelin.
The Columbus Parker Track Club also competed April 13 at the Titans Track Classic at Chapman High School in Inman.
The top performers, winning two medals each, were Aaliyah Hall and Zakaria Gillcrese. Hall, a Lancaster High School freshman, won first place in the shot put and discus. Gillcrese, an eighth-grader at Lewisville Middle School, finished second in the 100 and third in the 200.
Javon Kerley and Derrick Sparks Jr. both placed first in the long jump. Ayden Alexander placed second in long jump, and Angel Hall was second in the shot put.
The club’s first track meet of the season was April 6 at Lugoff-Elgin High School in Lugoff. The top performer was Reuben Boulware, who won first in long jump, second in the 400 and third in the 100. Boulware is a graduating senior at Lewisville High School.
Other first-place winners were Reggie Harris in the 400-meter hurdles, Michaela Bufford in the 1,500 racewalk and Aaliyah Hall in shot put. Terrek Walls placed third in long jump.
