Columbia – A service to celebrate the life of Eleanor Thomas, 77, will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Dicey Dunn Cemetery in Four Oaks, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandhills Community Church, 3513 Hard Scrabble Rd, Columbia, SC 29223 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741. 

Eleanor, wife of the late George Rufus Thomas, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Brookdale Columbia. She was married to George for 49 years and lived in Four Oaks. They met when she was in high school.

Eleanor, “Ellie”,  was born in Cumberland County, NC and raised in Benson, NC. She was the daughter of the late William and Doris Johnson Bradley. She was a member of Bethel Original Freewill Baptist Church in Four Oaks.  She was a dedicated employee  for the Department of Revenue for 32 ½ years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and spending time with her church friends. If she knew when your birthday was, you could count on a card in the mail from her. She enjoyed word searches, which she often referred to as crosswords, and bingo. At every meal, she was known for cleaning her plate and was always in the mood for dessert. Her favorite color was purple and she always preferred to wear clothes and accessories that had purple in them. She was a big fan of Elvis Presley’s music. She was a kind, gentle, supportive, and humble woman who loved the Lord. She was very proud of her grandkids and loved her family and friends well. 

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Philpott and Reverend Jeff; brother, Bill Bradley and his wife Carol; sisters, Glynn Smith, and Donna Godwin and her husband Frank; and grandchildren, Callie Maurer and her husband Sam, and Tyler Philpott and his wife Tyra. She was predeceased by a brother, David Bradley.
