Obituary of Alton Morris

Alton Morris, retired highway patrolman and antique tractor restorer passed away early Saturday morning in Lexington Medical Center. Alton was born in Easley, SC on Dec 2,1938 to Thomas B. and Mary Lou Grant Morris. He graduated from Ninety Six High School, served in the Navy and attended Newberry College.

In February 1962, he joined the highway patrol and in April 1962 married his high school sweet heart Lynn Wells. Alton was first assigned to Charleston, then spent the remainder of his career in the Columbia area, retiring as Lt. Colonel with 30 years of service then returning to serve one year as Colonel. He enjoyed camping and backpacking.

Alton is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Allison (E Jay) Talbot of Elgin; granddaughter, Chapin Talbot of Columbia; grandson, Zach Woodard of Colorado Springs; son, Jason of Sunset, SC; and sister, Debbie (George) Satterfield of Sparta, NC.

A graveside service for Alton will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 11733 Broad River Road, Chapin, South Carolina 29036.
