JV Austin
JV Austin, age 99 of Kershaw, S.C. and beloved husband of the late Doris Magdalene Bowers Austin, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 22, 2024, at his home. Born in Lancaster, S.C., he was a son of the late Virgil James Austin and Florrie Roach Austin. Mr. Austin retired from E. I. Dupont de Nemours and Co., Lugoff, S.C. after 32 years of service. He was a faithful member of Abney Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Royal Ambassador Leader and a member of the choir. He also enjoyed doing carpentry work, mechanic work and reading his Bible. He cherished the time he spent outdoors and the time he spent with his family. Mr. Austin served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by his 5 daughters, Barbara A. (Kenneth) Wallace of Camden, S.C., Deborah A. (James “Jimmy”) Willis of Kershaw, S.C., Donna A. Green of Kershaw, S.C., Sherry A. (David) Crosby of Swansea, S.C. and Robin A. (Mark) Wolfe of Kershaw, S.C. ; 8 grandchildren, Brandy Wallace, Stephanie (Phillip) Harrington, Heather (Chris) Mangum, Renee (Scott) Hathaway, Austin (Crystal) Floyd, Benjamin Floyd, Bret (Jamie) Wolfe and Meagan (Jamie) Vincent; 8 great grandchildren, Phillip, Taylor, Ethan, Jase, Rhett, Cole, Braxton and Brandt; his sister, Louise Catledge and his brother, Richard Austin. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Green; 3 grandchildren, Daryl Green, Stuart Green and Nicole Floyd and 4 brothers, Bobby Austin, Earl Austin, Sr., Ernest Austin and James Austin.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Austin will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 26, 2024, at Abney Baptist Church, Kershaw, S.C. The Rev. Scott Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abney Baptist Church Cemetery with committal rites rendered by Rev. Larry Plyler with Military honors will follow.
The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service in the church Family Life Center.
