SOUTH AIKEN 31, BARNWELL 26
South Aiken rallied late Friday to stun Barnwell, scoring twice with under a minute to go to overcome a 26-19 deficit to win 31-26.
Jevon Edwards rushed for 227 yards, surpassing 5,000 for his career, and two touchdowns on 31 carries, and he had two catches for 56 yards and the game-winning score for the T-Breds (2-2). Tucker Bryan went 14-for-17 passing for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Kyson McLeod caught four passes for 66 yards and a score.
South Aiken scored with 46 seconds remaining but still trailed by one after a two-point conversion failed. The T-Breds recovered the onside kick, with Edwards taking a screen pass to the house.
Barnwell (3-1), ranked fourth in Class AA, led 19-0 in the first half on the strength of two Cameron Austin touchdown runs and one by Jaquan Peeples. The T-Breds rallied to tie the game, and Austin rushed for his third score of the night with 4:16 left to put the Warhorses back in front.
South Aiken resumes Region 4-AAAA play next Friday at Brookland-Cayce. Barnwell will hit the road to face Class AAA No. 10 Swansea in non-region play.
BLACKVILLE-HILDA 20, SILVER BLUFF 14
Class A No. 4 Blackville-Hilda improved to 3-1 with a home win Thursday over Silver Bluff.
Samari Williams, Namair Anderson and Jaquel Holman each ran for a touchdown for the Fighting Hawks, who scored 14 straight points after falling behind 2-0 on a safety.
Holman led the offense with 102 yards on 10 carries and a 28-yard reception, while Williams rushed for 51 yards on nine carries and completed 2 of 4 passes for 32 yards. Jamarien Kirkland returned to the lineup after missing the last two weeks and had a 57-yard kickoff return.
Dorian Jones and Jameat Williams rushed for touchdowns in the second half for the Bulldogs, who fall to 0-4.
Blackville-Hilda is on the road next Thursday at Denmark-Olar, while Silver Bluff will head across the Savannah River on Friday to visit Lincoln County.
LUGOFF-ELGIN 49, AIKEN 18
Aiken fell to 0-3 with a road loss Thursday at Lugoff-Elgin.
Jamary Bonaparte rushed for two touchdowns and Jaddin Hayward had one for the Hornets, who visit Airport next Friday to begin Region 4-AAAA play.
WAGENER-SALLEY 30, ALLENDALE-FAIRFAX 0
Wagener-Salley evened its record at 2-2 with a road win Thursday over Allendale-Fairfax.
The War Eagles will be at home next Friday against Columbia.
WILLISTON-ELKO 35, EAU CLAIRE 22
Williston-Elko continued its strong start to the season with a road win Thursday over Eau Claire.
Kadin Wright led the defense with 13 total tackles with three tackles for loss. Willie Brown had a hand in 10 tackles and intercepted a pass, Josh Epps was in on nine, and Corey Newman forced a fumble.
The Blue Devils (3-1) have next Friday off, then will return to action Sept. 27 at Fox Creek.
