Perry McCoy Obituary

Funeral services for Perry L.  McCoy will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC.  Rev. Brent Kendall will officiate. Burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park will follow the service.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 4:00-5:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street.

Perry, a long-time resident of Camden, SC, passed away on January 9, 2025 at the age of 97. Born on January 19, 1927, he was the son of the late James and Eva McCoy.    

He attended Midway School and entered the Military where he served with the 11th Air Borne Division in Japan. After the military, he worked for many construction companies. Mr. McCoy enjoyed being an auctioneer for approximately 65 years.  In 1970 he started McCoy Moving & Storage Co., American Red Ball. He was active and served in many orgainzations. Perry was the Past President of Camden Optimist Club, a member of Masonic Lodge #29, a member and Past President of Camden Shrine Club.  He was also a member of Jamil Temple, and the Past Commander of American Legion Post #17 & VFW Post 5928. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Camden. He was a Sunday School teacher, former Deacon, treasurer, and served on numerous committees. Perry also sat on the board of NBSC (now known as Synovus) Bank. 

Perry is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty S. McCoy; son, Terry McCoy (Kathy); grandchildren, Shane McCoy (Bethany) of Villa Rica GA, Philip McCoy (Misty) of Little River, SC, Kayla McCoy Brown (Michael) of Lugoff, and Stephen Dobbs North Myrtle Beach;  son-in-law, Lynn Bowers; and 11 great-grandchildren who were the light of his life. 

Perry was predeceased by brothers, William and John McCoy, sister, Elizabeth McCoy Myers, daughter, Karen McCoy Bowers, and grandson, Derick Dobbs.
