Dr. John DuBose, III Obituary
Memorial services for Dr. John Bratton DuBose, III will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Grace Episcopal Church, 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020. Rev. Pickett Wall will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service in Richardson Hall. Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
John, husband of Harriet Geer DuBose, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025. Born in Harlingen, Texas, he was the son of the late John Bratton DuBose, Jr. and Charlotte Rohr DuBose Godvin. After his father was killed in action in WW II, John’s mother remarried Terence M. Godvin.
Dr. DuBose graduated from the University of S.C., where he received a B.S. Degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Parasitology in 1967. He was admitted to the School of Medicine at the Medical University of S. C, in Charleston where he met his wife, Harriet. John graduated with his M.D. degree in 1971, He completed his residency at Emory School of Medicine where he became chief resident and was board certified in Internal Medicine in 1974. Dr. DuBose joined the Emory Clinic as an Assistant Professor of Medicine that year. In 1975 Dr. DuBose moved his family to Camden where he founded Camden Internal Medicine Associates, which grew to become Sentinel Health Partners with five offices in the area. Dr. DuBose retired in 2010 and has been active in the community. During his practice years Dr. DuBose was elected President of the American Society of Internal Medicine in S.C. helping it to merge with the American College of Physicians where he was elected to fellowship and served on its board for many years, He received the Laureate Award of the ACP in 2009. Dr. DuBose was also active in his church and in the community following his retirement.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Harriet Geer DuBose; sons, Bratton DuBose (Kelly) of Bozeman, MT, Holmes DuBose (Julia) of Camden, and Ted DuBose (Krystal) of Irmo; grandchildren, Bratton Dubose, V of Bozeman, MT, Hans DuBose of Bozeman, MT, DeSaussure DuBose and Geer DuBose, both of Camden, Alexandra DuBose of Summerville, Claudia DuBose of Marietta, GA, Harriet DuBose of Charleston, Carter DuBose and Lily DuBose, both of Irmo; and sister, Carol DuBose Dippy of Palm City, FL.
Other than his parents and stepfather, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Walter Dippy.
