Annie Green Obituary

Annie Kate Dubose Green, born to the late Willie aand Hattie-Mary Dubose on January 3, 1926, in Cassatt, South Carolina, illustrated resilience in her amazing life journey. More than three years ago, she triumphed over a sudden illness, demonstrating the miraculous power of God’s healing.  She peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on her birthday, January 3, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital (Sumter, SC), leaving behind a legacy of strength at the age of 99.

Annie, affectionately known as “Mrs. Kate,” received her formal education in the public schools of Kershaw County, South Carolina. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Frank Peavy Green, and twelve children were born to this union.

Mrs. Kate loved the Lord and accepted Him as her personal Savior early on.  Her faith journey led her to join Broom Hill Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated member throughout her life. With an unwavering belief in the power of prayer, she encouraged those around her as the mother of the church.  As the matriarch of her family, she was a virtuous woman of God, a loving wife, an affectionate mother, a wonderful grandmother, an extraordinary sister, a beloved auntie, and a kind-hearted friend. She grew lifelong friendships in the old-fashioned way. Over the years, she served her church and the communities of Rembert and Camden with grace and humility. Her home was always a haven for family and neighbors to gather. She dedicated her life to what she enjoyed most, including being a seamstress, housekeeper, and servant of God.  She had a great sense of humor and was an inspiration and beacon of light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Mrs. Kate was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Lula Mae, four brothers—Nora, Dalton, Willie, and Raspberry—and four children: Mary, Thomas, Edna, and Dorothy.

Mrs. Kate leaves to mourn her loss, to honor and to cherish her memory eight children: Earlene Kershaw (Willis), Michael Green, Barbara Missouri (MacArthur), Frank Green, Carolyn McCray (Charlie), Larry Green (Shirley), Christina Jenkins, and Richard Green.  She is also survived by one adopted daughter, Dorothy Washington; one sister, Priscilla Salmond; one honorary daughter, Cheryl Baum; thirty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and an adored friend, Pearl Dinkins; two special caretakers, Julie Goodwin-Huggins and Sondra Brooks, as well as many loved nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
