Blythewood girls, Ridge View boys take over first place in region standings

The Ridge View boys and Blythewood took big steps toward a region championship on Saturday.

RV boys used a big first-half in defeating Blythewood , 64-52, in a matchup of too-ranked teams in Class 5A. Korie Corbett

scored 20 points and Yale Davis added 15 points for the Blazers.

Ridge View

(17-7, 10-0) leads the Blazers by 1 ½ games in the Region 5-5A standings and can clinch the region title with a win over Sumter on Tuesday or in the rematch against Blythewood on Friday.

RV led 42-23 at halftime and were up by as many as 27 points in the second half.

On the girls side, Blythewood rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Blazers, 59-45 and take over first place in the region. The Bengals (24-1, 11-0) lead RV by a game heading into the final week of the regular season.

Blythewood wins the region with a RV loss at Sumter on Tuesday or with a win over them on Friday.

led Blythewood with 29 points and India Williams

had 16. Williams, a junior, went over 1,000 points in her career during the game.

Other highlights from this weekend’s games include

▪ Braysen Stockman became Ben Lippen’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday, The junior went over 2,000 points for his career, breaking the school’s all-time mark of 1,996.

▪ Keenan boys clinched the region championship with a 56-43 win over Fox Creek .

▪ River Bluff and Dutch Fork

boys picked up wins headed into Tuesday’s showdown. River Bluff leads DF by a game in the region standings. If River Bluff wins on Tuesday, it will win the region title. The Gators won a thriller against the Silver Foxes, 49-48, on Jan. 28 .

▪ Hammond boys rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Heathwood Hall, 48-33.
