Soda City Certified ® (SCC), Columbia’s only mobile application that aims to help residents and visitors explore our Capitol City, will launch a free African American history scavenger hunt during the month of February for all app users. Twenty sites will be featured, including murals, historic markers, and more.
Users will receive 25 points per site location, for a total of 500 points max if they answer a question to receive the pin code while at the site location. The three users who visits all sites and posts a picture at the sites on Instagram, using the hashtag #SCCBlack-HistoryScavengerHunt will receive a cash prize.
“African Americans have played an integral part in Columbia, South Carolina history that spans over 300 years.
From enslaved workers to Civil Rights leaders to presentday history-in-the-making, we are excited to share the work of local artists and muralists, as well as historic prominent figures for our app users,” said Khali Gallman, Soda City Certified® app creator. “We encourage everyone to free up some time during their weekends and explore! It’s a great way to discover new parts of the city while learning something new.” All site locations of the scavenger hunt are in the Columbia metropolitan area, spanning most districts. Participants may use all scavenger hunt locations at your own risk. Be safe. Have fun.
