Purvis Pue Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Batesburg, South Carolina, Purvis recently relocated to Manning, South Carolina, from Dunn, North Carolina, to be closer to his children.
Purvis led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family. He received his early education in the Batesburg public school system and went on to work numerous jobs in the construction industry, ultimately serving as a Construction Foreman. His work ethic and leadership were admired by all who knew him.
Purvis was a man of faith whose religious journey began at Calidonia Baptist Church in his hometown. As life took him north, he became a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in West Haven, Connecticut. Later, he moved his membership to First Free Will Baptist Church in Erwin, North Carolina. He served faithfully as a deacon for thirty years. His commitment to his faith and community was unwavering.
He had a passion for traveling, going on cruises, and spending quality time with his large family. Fishing was another favorite pastime, offering him peace and joy throughout his life.
Purvis is survived by his children: Jimmie (Lisa) Pue of Camden, South Carolina, Diane (Robert) Wilson of Manning, South Carolina, Lee Hatten of Carmel, New York, and Doris Shahid of Batesburg, South Carolina. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Lashonda, who he raised as a daughter; siblings, Timothy (Hope) Pue of Dunn, North Carolina, George (Sally Ann) Pue of Batesburg, South Carolina and Lillie (Wali) Muhammad of Douglasville, Georgia. His legacy continues through his 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Jane Pue; his second wife, Dulcie Pue; son, Bobby Johnson; daughter, Heather Conyers; and siblings Major Pue, Lindberg Pue, Joe Pue, and Carrie Mae Marshall.
Purvis Pue Jr. will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and his community. His warmth, wisdom, and love will be cherished by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A viewing will be held at Calidonia Baptist Church in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Calidonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
