Obituary of James Lever Chambers

Woodville, AL – James Lever Chambers, 84, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Born in Richland County, S.C., he was a son of the late James Lever Chambers and Lula Brazell Chambers. James was a member of Cowboy Church in Alabama and a former volunteer firefighter for Raft Swamp Fire and Rescue in Lumberton, N.C. He was a hard worker who loved rodeos and animals. He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his daughter, Yvonne Gumm of Elgin; son, James Chambers of Woodville, Al; step-son, Billy DeMent; brother, Paul Chambers (Vivian); sister, Shirley Jordan; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth T. Chambers; children, Cynthia Dianne Johnson, Anita Christy Britt, Patricia Elaine Snow; step-son, Vernon DeMent; and siblings, James Lloyd Chambers, Cathy Headen, Hubert Chambers, Betty Chambers, Sammy Chambers and Thomas Chambers.      

Family and Friends will gather to walk with him to his next journey on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in Old Macedonia Cemetery, Columbia. Pastor Chris Chambers will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, S.C.
