Obituary of Lewis Edward Hawkins

Lewis Edward Hawkins, 82, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Laurel, MD, he was the son of the late Joe Gene Hawkins and the late Mamie Franklin Bobitt Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins served in the United States Marine Corps until being honorably discharged. While in the Marines he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Marksman Badge. He worked as a correctional officer for the State of Maryland for 30 years before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed cooking, his walks and watching baseball and football, more specifically the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins. But above all else what he enjoyed most was being with his family and especially his grandbabies.

Left to cherish his memories is his daughter, Jennifer Lea Mothershead (Earl); daughter-in-law, Christina Hawkins; grandchildren, Shane Patrick Hawkins, Ryan Jeffery Hawkins, Jesse William Mothershead, (Mercedez Nicole Campbell) Aaron Wayne Mothershead, and Derek John Mothershead and great-grandchildren, Mila Sonya Hawkins, Layton Jeffery Hawkins and Mason William Mothershead.

He was predeceased by his late wife in 2016, Barbara Jean Stewart Hawkins; son, Jeffery Wayne Hawkins and brothers, Nelson Ray Hawkins (Wanda) and Charles David Hawkins (Kathy).

Services for Mr. Hawkins will be held at a later date.
