The ceramic talents of South Carolina State University’s Alexander Thierry are featured in a solo exhibition, “In the Meantime,” at the Stanley Art Center, 105 Lee Ave., Hampton, through Friday, March 21.
Thierry is an associate professor in SC State’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts. He is an artist and educator, born in St. Louis, Missouri.
Primarily working in ceramics, Thierry uses clay to talk about memory, time, and both personal and communal experiences. His work has been shown across the U.S. and internationally. He has taught workshops at universities, crafts schools, and art centers.
Thierry earned a Master of Fine Arts in studio art – ceramics from the University of Kansas. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in art- painting, a Bachelor of Arts in studio art – ceramics, and a Master of Art Education from Truman State University. He resides in Elgin, South Carolina.
