Raymond Johnson Obituary
Raymond Alvin Johnson, affectionately known as “Cludy”, was the son of the late Jimmy and Bennie Mae Wheeler Johnson. He was born on February 21, 1961, in Bethune, South Carolina. Raymond entered into eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
At a young age, Raymond joined Mt. Joshua Baptist Church, where he later served as a trustee and an usher. Raymond graduated from Camden High School in the class of 1979 and completed further studies at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. In 1994, Raymond married Desiree Houston, the love of his life. Together they raised and cherished two children as their own.
Raymond was a dedicated, conscientious worker. He worked with the Lee County Department of Corrections as a Lieutenant until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also had a deep love for horseback riding. He and his Horse, Jimmy J, participated in many parades and other riding exhibitions over the years.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Johnson, Sr.; three aunts, Janie Williams, Naomi Drakeford and Aunt “Pete” Johnson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his beloved wife, Desiree Johnson; children by love, Antonio Johnson (Brianna) and Tia Johnson (Zay); grandchildren by love, Bria, Lei’lani, Jade, and Kamazi; siblings, Nealie Johnson of Montezuma, GA, Eugene “Sodie” Johnson (Genetha) of Ruby, SC, and Betty Legette (Richard) of Sparta, GA; brothers-in-law, Marc Houston (Lamara) of Camden, SC and Walter Wayne McMaster (Talisha) of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Lorraine Johnson of Batesburg-Leesville, SC; bonus brothers, Anthony Bennett, Wendell Bennett, and Gus Haynesworth, all of Camden, SC; uncles, Johnny Jones of Miami, FL and Jimmy Jones of Valdosta, GA; aunt, Pearl Bennett of Camden, SC; nieces and nephews, Tonya Johnson (Takiyah), Donald Johnson, Jr. (Bernice), Shante Neal, Tevin Neal, Brianna Neal, Kevin Johnson (A.J), Kwante Legette (Valencia), and Timothy Legette; lifelong friends, Curtis Green (Phyllis) of Columbia, SC, Henry “Pop” Rose of Camden, SC, Albert Lee “Doc” Johnson of Camden, SC, and Larry Stuckey of Rembert, SC and a host of relatives, friends, the Mt. Joshua Baptist Church family and the St. John Baptist Church family. Raymond’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
