Gwendolyn Drakeford Moorer Obituary
Gwendolyn Drakeford Moorer,70, affectionately acknowledged as “Gwen” entered into the arms of an all-wise and all-knowing God on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Pruitt Health-Blythewood in Columbia, South Carolina. She answered her heavenly father’s voice and departed from this earthly world, from labor to reward. Gwen was the daughter of Johnie Boyd Drakeford and the late Estella Champion Drakeford.
Gwen was educated in the public schools in Bronx, NY. After completion of her education, Gwen was employed with the United States Securities Exchange Commission. After relocating to South Carolina, continuing to provide for her family, she became employed as a corrections officer for the State Government of South Carolina. In continuing with her ability to help and serve others, no job could compare to her love as a substitute teacher for the Kershaw County School District.
Gwen was a faithful member of the Mt Sinai Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bronx, NY, for more than thirty years. She served as a member of the Golden Harps of God Choir, taught youth Sunday School, and participated in the youth activities of the Holiness Young People’s Union (HYPU). In 1989, Gwen and her family relocated to Camden, South Carolina, where she joined Christian Fellowship Tabernacle and later, Abundant Life Fellowship Church.
Gwen was united in Holy Matrimony to Dennis Moorer. From this union, three beautiful children were born, Dennis Jr., Leah, and Emmanuel.
Gwen was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford B. Drakeford.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memories her loving father, Johnie B. Drakeford of Carrollton, Georgia; her beautiful children, Dennis G. Moorer, Jr. of Greenville, South Carolina, Leah M. (Shaquell) Galbreath of Douglasville, Georgia, and Emmanuel Moorer of Camden, South Carolina; eight precious grandchildren, Giavanna Moorer, Chloe Moorer, Nevaeh Moorer, Sophia Moorer, Melanie Moorer, Cali Galbreath, Elesia Moorer, and Elijah Galbreath; one dear sister, Robin A. (Darnel) Parks of Longwood, Florida; one beloved brother, Johnnie B. Drakeford, Jr. of McKenney, Virginia; one adoring godson, Jonathan P.
