Clara P. Sowell

Clara Phillips Sowell, age 80, of Kershaw, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday morning, December 19, 2025. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Julius Richardson Phillips and Mae Snipes Phillips.

Mrs. Sowell worked for many years as a clerk in the retail industry. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, making crafts, sewing, and cross-stitching. A woman of strong faith, she was a faithful and devoted member of DeKalb Baptist Church. She was married to the late Arthur L. Sowell.

She is survived by her brother, Wayne Phillips (Judy), her sisters, Peggy Catoe (Earl) and Patricia Schakett; her sisters-in-law, Sandy Phillips and Ann Phillips; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Phillips and Jimmy Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of DeKalb Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina. The funeral service will follow immediately at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Jeremy Ussery officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
