ELGIN- A celebration of life service for James Porter Motley, Sr., 82, will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. 

Mr. Motley passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Born in Elgin, he was a son of the late Porter and Gertrude Odom Motley. Mr. Motley was a member of Sandhill Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed riding his golf cart, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Judy Motley; sons, James “Jay” Motley (Virginia) of Elgin, Robert “Robbie” Motley (Pepper) of Elgin; sisters, Patsy Miles of Elgin, Peggy Phillips of Elgin; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
