Doris Vinson Obituary
Doris Faye Dabney Vinson, age 88, passed away at home on January 11, 2026. She was born in Camden on September 2, 1937, to the late Elihu Frederick Dabney and the late Ruth Dixon Dabney.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC. Rev. Steve Lee and Rev. Wyman Richardson will officiate. Visitation with family will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Center. Burial at Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, 608 Black River Road, Camden, will follow the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Camden where she served in the choir, Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), Heart Shapers children’s ministry, and Vacation Bible School.
Doris also served faithfully for many years as a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and as Treasurer. She was active in WMU, Acteens, and the choir.
Doris was active in civic affairs in the community and served in the past with the United Way and the American Cancer Society. She was a longtime member of the Pilot Club in Camden where she served as recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and president and was named “Sweetheart” of the Pilot Club. She was instrumental in implementation of the Lifeline program for Kershaw County Memorial Hospital. During her retirement years, she served with the KershawHealth Women’s Auxiliary as a volunteer in the gift shop to support the hospital through fundraising for scholarships, projects, and equipment.
Doris had a long and successful professional career in banking and as owner of the Jordan’s Tax Service. She continued to work with Three Ladies and a Ledger for several years.
Her greatest love was her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her many nieces and nephews gave her much joy and happiness. She enjoyed many beach and mountain trips with family. She dearly loved her three wonderful sisters and brother.
Doris is survived by her children, Doug Vinson (Carol), of Camden, Beth Vinson Charles (Kevin), of Camden, grandchildren Eric Vinson (Danielle), of Camden, Phillip Vinson, of Camden, Drew Charles (Mary Hay), of Camden, Catie Charles Taylor (Corey), of Lugoff; great-grandchildren Emma and Anna Vinson, Grayson and Charlie Grace Taylor, Nell and Smythe Charles; sisters Elaine Dabney Cassady and Marie Dabney Crosby, both of Lugoff; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Charlie Floyd Vinson; brother, Donald F. Dabney, and sister Miriam Dabney Jones.
The family wishes to thank and acknowledge with deep gratitude the MUSC Health Hospice care team for their dedicated and compassionate care and support.
