It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Mrs. Johnnie Mae Drakeford who entered into rest January 16, 2026.

Born February 2, 1937 in Camden, South Carolina, Mother Drakeford was the daughter of the late Issac Bradford and Rosa Bell Robinson. She was the baby sister to Ruby Robinson and Brother Andrew (Boy Blue) Robertson.

An attendee of Jackson High School, Mother Drakeford graduated top of her class in 1954. She wed Archie Drakeford, Jr. in 1955 before moving to New York and becoming a mother to her two daughters, Jacqueline and Debra. Upon the family moving to Brooklyn, Mother Drakeford joined Calvary AME Church where she spent the next decades of her life. In 1994, Mother Drakeford moved back to Camden, South Carolina where she then joined Saint Mark Church of God in Christ.

Under the leadership of Pastor Shelly Hardy, Jr., Mother Drakeford was a member of Saint Mark for over 25 years. Over the decades, Mother Drakeford was Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Trustee Board, a Chairwoman of the Church, leader of the prayer warriors and Senior Mother of the church Mother Board. Mother Drakeford was a loving and faithful member to her church community until the very end.

Mother Drakeford leaves behind two daughters, Jacqueline Pellot (Eddie Campbell) and Debra Drakeford; a son, Calvin (Sarah) Moses; four grandchildren, Nicole Dobbins, Aaron (Chloe’) Pellot, Jessia George and Christian Pellot (Devin Johnson); four great-grandchildren, Nikki Drakeford, Nashawn Dobbins, Nyla George McBean and Luna Pellot. Mother Drakeford will fondly be remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Saint Mark Church of God In Christ. Interment will follow in Cedar Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM Friday at Brown’s Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance.
