Governor Henry McMaster and the South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) have released the 2025 industry recruitment results, marking a milestone for rural economic development. From January to December 2025, South Carolina announced total capital investment of $9.12 billion, representing the third-highest year for industry recruitment on record and more than 8,100 new jobs. Rural recruitment of both capital investment as well as new jobs accounted for more than 40 percent of the overall totals—the highest percentages since 2010.

The Public Buildings Reform Board (PBRB) will hold a public meeting to discuss federal properties in Charleston and Columbia, S.C.; Savannah, Ga.; and Jacksonville, Fla. currently being assessed for possible consolidation and disposition Thursday, January 29, 10–11 a.m. Charleston Gaillard Center, Ballroom, 95 Calhoun Street, Charleston, S.C. The South Carolina Department of Transportation is scheduled to close and detour the Pine Street bridge over Congaree Creek in Lexington County for repairs beginning January 26. The bridge is expected to reopen February 6. These dates may change depending on weather conditions.
