Ona Pitzer Obituary

ELGIN- Ona Pauline McCoy Pitzer departed this life on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Born in Akron, Ohio on June 3, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. and Alice Haslebacher McCoy. She attended Tallmadge public schools until moving to Camden, S.C. in 1967.

Ona graduated from Camden High School in 1971. She attended Coastal Carolina and Midlands Tech, graduating in 1983 an EMT/Surgical Tech and MA working in Pediatrics, Dermatology and Medical Management/ Billing 28 years. Ona was an active volunteer for the Richland County Coroner’s office Care Team for 18 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She leaves to grieve her husband of 54 years, John Blake Pitzer of Elgin; daughters, Mary Katherine Pitzer-Thornton (Todd) and Jillian Rachel Pitzer-Quiros (Michael) both of Lugoff, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Jordan, Caroline,  and Haley Weaver, Shannon Mary Katherine McCoy, Taylor, Tanner and Thomas Thornton, John Michael, Tyler and Charlotte Quiros all of Lugoff; sisters, Ann Stein Mickle of Buckhannon W.V. and Roberta Lee Hill of Cuyahoga Falls, Oh; and multiple beloved nieces and nephews and families.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 6 at 11:00 am at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The Rev. Clay Shook and The Rev. Bob Moore will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday February 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
