Two Elgin Town Council members tassel briefly Wednesday in the Town Hall after one accused the other of violating town zoning laws.
Council member Roger Ross grabbed Paul Grooms by the shirt, before Police Chief Dennis McKelvey stepped between the two, the chief said.
No charges had been filed late Wednesday.
McKelvey said Grooms complained to him that Ross was breaking town zoning laws by transporting debris from the demolition of the Old Blaney gym to his trucking company on Green Hill Road so he could fill in some holes.
McKelvey said Ross hadn’t violated zoning laws, although Grooms still disagreed when contacted Wednesday night.
Grooms, 63, claimed Ross, who’s in his mid-40’s, grabbed him by the collar, slammed him against a wall and made a fistbefore the chief intervened. Grooms said he didn’t touch Ross.
Ross refused to comment Wednesday night.
McKelvey said he’s still investigating and declined further comment.
