ELGIN – Graveside services for Earl Hubert Thornton, 85, of Elgin will be held Sunday, August 1, 2004 at 2:00 PM in Blaney Baptist Church Cemetery. Chaplain Mark S. Bredholt will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service in the sanctuary of Blaney Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Rd., Elgin, SC 29045 or to Hospice Care of Tri-County, 2209 West DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020. Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel is in charge.
Mr. Thornton, widower of Willie Mae Frost Thornton, died Friday, July 30, 2004. Born in Blaney, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph Earl Thornton and Mary Elizabeth Watson Thornton. He was a member of Blaney Baptist Church and SC Fireman’s Association. He retired from City of Columbia Fire Department and was a WWII Navy veteran.
Surviving are daughters, Debbie T. Miles of Lugoff, Diane Griffin of Charleston; a son, Larry G. Thornton of Columbia, 10 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Rae Hulst of W. Columbia, Mary Mangum of Blythewood and Doris Paul of Gilbert. He was predeceased by a son, Tommy Wayne Thornton; sister, Sallie Satcher; brothers, Wallace and Donald Thornton.
