On August 27, 1928, T. C. Thornton was mentioned as a living son in the obituary of Peter H. Thornton.
1942
On April 24, 1942, Mr. T. C. Thornton, Sr. was listed in the newspaper article “T. C. Thorntons Celebrate Golden Wedding.”
1943
Funeral services for T. C. Thornton, Sr., of 2302 Park Street, will be conducted from the Park Street Baptist church by the Rev. Paul Wheeler, pastor, at 4:30 this afternoon.
Mr. Thornton died at the Baptist hospital Friday evening, July 30, 1943 after having been ill for several months.
Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
A member of the Park Street Baptist church, Mr. Thornton was chairman of the board of registration for Richland county.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Leila McCreight Thornton; four daughters, Mrs. Y.D. Dreher, Mrs. F.W. Ketchen, Mrs. R.E.L. Park, and Miss Mildred Thornton, all of Columbia; two sons, T.C. Thornton, Jr., of Charleston, and W.A. Thornton of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. John Motley of Blaney; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
