It was reported at all family members were born in South Carolina. John Gary Ross was a Merchant of a retail grocery, Lela Mae Hinson Ross kept house, Lorane Arvid Ross and Wyorian Lovella Ross attended school, while Gary Patricia Ross, Lela Jeanene Ross and Loretta Valeria Ross were to young attend school.

Leila Ross

ELGIN – Funeral services for Leila Mae Hinson Ross, 93, will be held Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Blaney Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Mattox and Rev. E.C. Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 4, 2005, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in Blaney Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the A. Sam Karesh Longterm Care, Haile & Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020 or to Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Road, Elgin, SC 29045.

Mrs. Ross, widow of John “Jack” Gary Ross, died Monday, August 1, 2005. Born in Blaney, she was the daughter of the late Edward Garner Hinson and Nancy Rhett Ross Hinson. Mrs. Ross was a department manager for J.C. Penney Company for several years, and also the manager of the Smart & Thrifty Dress Shop in Camden until her retirement. She was a gifted musician who served as pianist and organist for both Union Baptist Church and Blaney Baptist Church in Elgin. Mrs. Ross was a member of Blaney Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, LoRan Ross and his wife, Vicki Ross, of Camden; daughters, Wyrian Arnold and Patricia Hall, both of Columbia, Jean Smith and her husband, Paul Smith, of Georgetown, and Loretta Carr of Elgin; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild; brother, Herbert Martin of Topeka, KS; sisters-in-law, Eva Roberts of Texarkana, TX, and Marie Hinson of Andrews, SC.

She was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
